Forgive me for reprinting a blog post from last spring, but as we come into July, it’s time for a watering review.
- improve plant health, growth, and appearance
- prevent disease and aesthetic problems such as mildew or leaf-scorch
- save money on excessive irrigation (or replacement of dead plants!)
- minimize run-off of plant nutrients
Proper watering is the best way to protect your investment in your plants! Determining the needs of individual plants and parts of your property will take some time, so we’ve provided some basic guidelines in our watering guide, available on our website and with all new A Yard & A Half installations.
Remember that these guildelines are no substitute for regular observation of your plants. Timers and soaker hoses are great. But if you’re going away for a long period in the summer, especially if you have new plantings, arrange for someone to look in on your babies periodically to adjust watering if needed.
